Packers coordinators speak coming out of the bye week

Green Bay Packers assistant coaches Adam Stenavich, Joe Barry and Rich Bisaccia spoke with the assembled media on Monday coming out of the team’s bye week.

The Packers are 2-3, riding a two-game losing streak and preparing to play the Denver Broncos on Sunday.

Matt LaFleur will talk to the media on Wednesday.

Here’s all the important things said by each Packers coordinator on Monday:

Offensive coordinator Adam Stenavich

— Packers need to improve in downhill run game, getting more movement with combo blocks. “That’s one area of emphasis we’re going to work on moving forward.” Need better technique. Pad level.

— Rasheed Walker needs to eliminate “some of the really bad plays” over the course of a full game. Needs focus on details.

— On Luke Musgrave: Called him a playmaker. Said Packers need to “find a way to get him more involved” in the passing game.

— On Aaron Jones: He can maximize good plays and minimize negative plays. A guy we can rely on. If we get him the ball 12-15 times a game, good things are going to happen. Another guy Jordan Love can get the ball to and “something cool happens.” Can alleviate pressure on the quarterback.

— On Love’s completion percentage: Need to help him stay more efficient as an offense. Too many second-and-long and third-and-long situations. Must do better on first and second down.

— On screen game: Throwing into good looks and not getting explosive plays. Better job getting to targets as blockers.

Defensive coordinator Joe Barry

— Barry liked the defense’s playside. “How hard our guys have played.” Pointed to the two games (at Atlanta, vs. Detroit) giving up over 200 rushing yards as the biggest negative of the first five games.

— On Rudy Ford: “Great example of why you have an offseason…if you remember we signed Rudy Ford the week of the first week last year.” More comfortable in the system in Year 2. Appreciates his approach every week.

— On consistency: “I think, as an entire team, we’re searching for consistency. Being able to stack a few really good weeks on top of each other.”

— Proud of the way Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson played vs. the Raiders. They approach the game as if they are always starters.

— On Preston Smith covering Davante Adams: Called a coverage that required Preston to drop. Packers didn’t have a mechanism to get out of the coverage. More here.

— On Eric Stokes returning: Good problem to have too many corners.

Special teams coordinator Rich Bisaccia

— On Broncos return game: Rookie Marvin Mims is playing really well. “He’s dangerous back there…he’s a weapon for them.”

— Took a look at punt protection problems during bye week. Also lane coverage/discipline on punt coverage and making sure personnel is right on specific special teams groups.

— Tough for Isaiah McDuffie and Eric Wilson to play a lot of snaps on defense and special teams. Getting Kristian Welch up from the practice squad to play in all four phases on special teams helped.

— Wind is a factor in Denver. “We’ll see what kind of day we get.” Ball travels well there. Weather can change quarter to quarter.

— Field goal operation is “going well.” Called it a work in progress…operation has been “on task” up to this point.
