Packers bringing back WR Allen Lazard to practice squad

After going unclaimed on waivers, second-year receiver Allen Lazard will return to the Green Bay Packers as a member of the team’s 10-player practice squad, according to agent Michael Perrett.

Lazard, the former Iowa State star, was a summer standout for the Packers, catching six passes for 114 yards and a touchdown over three preseason games. He missed the finale after suffering a concussion in Winnipeg against the Oakland Raiders.

The Packers cut Lazard while getting the roster down to 53 players on Saturday.

His return gives the Packers a quality receiver and special teams player to stash on the practice squad in case of injury. He’d likely be the team’s first option if one of the team’s six receivers went down with an injury during the regular season.

Lazard joins tight end Evan Baylis, running back Tra Carson, cornerback Kabion Ento, defensive lineman James Looney, offensive tackle Yosh Nijman, linebacker Randy Ramsey, linebacker Brady Sheldon, receiver Malik Taylor and quarterback Manny Wilkins on the practice squad.
