Pablo Hernandez addresses Helder Costa situation with position change on the cards

Helder Costa’s Championship history would suggest he will be central to any promotion push at Leeds United next season and Pablo Hernandez knows it.

Hernandez, who scored another late winner for the Whites on Saturday night, this time in Sydney, has been Elland Road’s talisman for so long, selflessly shouldering the burden.

However, with the best part of £15m on the table for the Portuguese from Wolverhampton Wanderers, a lot is expected of Costa , especially if he is given his natural berth on the right.

Hernandez , the undisputed king of the right flank in the past few years, is happy to move inside or wherever head coach Marcelo Bielsa wants him.

In Australia we have seen both options. Against Manchester United it was Kemar Roofe who started on the right with Hernandez central, while he went out wide again at Western Sydney Wanderers.

“It’s a good thing for us. Helder, we saw with Wolverhampton, his football,” Hernandez told LeedsLive.

“He’s a good attacker, a good winger and he can be an important player for us this season.”

Asked about his preference on the field and where he believes he will play in Bielsa 2.0 the Spaniard was unsure.

“I don’t know. This is a manager’s decision. Obviously, I want to play, I want to try to give my 100 per cent again, show my football,” he said.

“If the manager decide I play on the wing or in the middle I can play in both positions and the most important thing for me is to play.”
