A 17-year-old P-plater caught driving 70kmh above the speed limit on the Tuggeranong Parkway has had his licence suspended and vehicle seized by police.
Police said they detected the teenager travelling 170kmh in the 100kmh zone about 11pm on Saturday and stopped the driver later that night.
The driver had his licence immediately suspended and vehicle seized, and is set to be summonsed to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court, police said.
Detective Acting Inspector David Lawler said higher speeds reduced the time drivers had to react and significantly increased the distance vehicles needed to stop.
"Speeding puts not only the driver but all road users at risk, including passengers, other motorists, cyclists and pedestrians," Detective Acting Inspector Lawler said.
"Police can be anywhere, anytime and in any vehicle. We urge all road users to slow down, obey speed limits and help keep our roads safe."
On Friday, ACT Policing said a 22-year-old woman had lost her licence after she was caught speeding riding a motorcycle on the Monaro Highway on Wednesday night.
Police said they recorded the motorcycle travelling 153kmh in a 90kmh speed zone and issued the rider with a $1840 fine, six demerit points and an immediate six-month licence suspension.
