Owen Jones: Three men arrested after attack on Guardian columnist outside north London pub

Three men have been arrested in connection with an assault on Guardian columnist Owen Jones earlier this month.

Mr Jones, a left-wing political activist and author, was attacked outside the Lexington pub in Pentonville Road, Islington, in the early hours of August 17 while he celebrated his birthday.

Police today arrested three men, aged 39, 34 and 29, in connection with the incident.

A Scotland Yard statement said: "All three were arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

"All three remain in custody."

Officers said four men were involved and when the victim's friend attempted to intervene, they were also assaulted.

Scotland Yard said none of those assaulted required hospital treatment.

Police previously said CCTV from the area was being reviewed in connection to the incident.
