Over 8kg opium, Rs. 2.8 lakh seized in Manipur’s Thoubal district

IMPHAL: Police on Friday seized 8.9kg opium and Rs 2,81,900 from a drug peddler at Salampatong village in Thoubal district. The cops were tipped off about the consignment by Keithelmanbi battalion of Assam Rifles.

The seized narcotics would be worth more than Rs 5.34 lakh, read a statement issued by the Assam Rifles.

The recovered items along with the drug peddler were handed over to Nongpok Police Station for further investigation, it further read.

Meanwhile, the Loktak battalion of the rifles on Friday organised a motivational lecture on a career in the armed forces and also on the ill-effects of drug abuse, at Komlakhong village in Imphal West district.

The lecture was followed by an interactive session during which the queries of the participants were answered. They were guided and encouraged to aim for future recruitment drives and the UPSC exam to join the armed forces.
