Over 700 people in Lanarkshire have now tested positive for coroanvirus

The Scottish Government today said that 707 people have now tested positive for coronavirus in Lanarkshire.

That is a rise of 45 from yesterday’s figure of 662.

It comes as 542  patients across Scotland who tested positive for coronavirus (COVID-19) have died.

Today’s figures also show that 257 people across Lanarkshire were in hospital at midnight, with confirmed or suspected coronavirus.

And 30 people in Lanarkshire were in intensive care at midnight, with confirmed or suspected coronavirus.

The Scottish test numbers for April 11 show a total of 29,903 people have been tested across the country.

Of these:

■ 24,313 tests were confirmed negative

■ 5590 tests were positive

■ 542 patients who tested positive have died

■ 212 patients were in intensive care last night, with 202 of those having tested positive

■ There were 1855 people in Scottish hospitals with either confirmed or suspected COVID-19 (including those in intensive care).

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said: “Coronavirus is the biggest challenge of our lifetime and  measures we take to tackle it must reflect the magnitude of that.

“These measures are essential to slow down the spread of this virus. They are essential to reduce the peak impact of it.”
