Over 50 deaths from COVID-19 have now been recorded in Perth and Kinross

The number if deaths in Perth and Kinross linked to the coronavirus is now over 50.

And worryingly, the number of recorded deaths with COVID-19 on the death certificate rose last week compared to the week before.

Statistics released by the National  Records of Scotland on Wednesday showed there had been 54 coronavirus related deaths in the region until Sunday, May 10.

Perthshire has become dumping ground for illegal waste from across Scotland

That is an increase of 11 on the week before. The previous week, five deaths were linked to COVID-19.

Nearly a third of deaths in the region have now happened in care homes, with 17 deaths.

The majority continue to happen in hospital, with 33 deaths recorded there.

Across Scotland, 3213 deaths up until Sunday had COVID-19 listed on the death certificate.

Nearly half were in care homes.
