Otter pup dies after being caught in 'unauthorised snare' as police launch probe

Police have launched an investigation after an otter pup was killed after being caught in an 'unauthorised snare'.

Officers are appealing for information after the animal succumbed to its injuries in the Carron Valley Forrest area by Kilsyth on Monday.

They are urging anyone with information on the setting of illegal snares across Lanarkshire to come forward.

A police appeal issued today (Wednesday), advised: "Lanarkshire Police Division are appealing for the public’s help after an otter pup was found to have succumbed to injuries sustained from being trapped in an unauthorised snare in the Carron Valley Forrest area near Kilsyth on Monday, January 24.

"If you have any information regarding this incident or know of anyone involved in the setting of unauthorised snares anywhere in Lanarkshire please contact Airdrie's Community Policing Team on 101 quoting incident number 0596 of 24 January, 2022.

"If you’d rather remain anonymous, please contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit http://crimestoppers-uk.org/.../give-information-anonymously".
