Olivia Colman: Peep Show co-star David Mitchell leads Oscar celebrations after Best Actress win

Olivia Colman’s former Peep Show co-star David Mitchell lead celebrations following her Best Actress victory at the Oscars.

“Oh my God! That’s amazing! And what a brilliant speech!” Mitchell tweeted.

Colman had never been nominated for an Oscar before and won the award for her performance as Queen Anne in The Favourite.

Edgar Wright, who directed Colman on the film Hot Fuzz, tweeted that he was “so, so happy” for the actor, posting a photo of the Oscar-winner starring in the 2007 film, captioning the post: “Colman takes out the  competish.”

Others to praise Colman included fellow Oscar winner Julia Roberts, who wrote on Instagram: “I (love) Olivia.”

Colman beat The Wife’s Glenn Close to the top prize in a category that also included Lady Gaga (A Star is Born), Yalitza Aparicio (Roma) and Can You Ever Forgive Me? star Melissa McCarthy.

Earlier in the evening, Rami Malek took home Best Actor for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody. Mahershala Ali won Best Supporting Actor for this year’s Best Picture winner, Green Book, while Regina King won Best Supporting Actress for her performance in If Beale Street Could Talk

Winners at this year’s ceremony included Olivia Colman for The FavouriteRami Malek for Bohemian Rhapsody, Regina King for If Beale Street Could Talk and Mahershala Ali whose film Green Book won Best Picture. Alfonso Cuarón took home Best Director for his Netflix drama Roma.
