Oscar-nominated Emilia Perez set for Indian theatrical release on February 28

Jacques Audiard’s critically acclaimed musical crime drama 'Emilia Perez' is all set to make its much-anticipated Indian theatrical debut, just in time for Oscar season.

The film that has dominated the global awards circuit with multiple Golden Globe and BAFTA wins, along with a record-breaking 13 Academy Award nominations, will hit the big screen on February 28, 2025, just days before the Oscars ceremony on March 3.

Featuring a powerhouse ensemble cast—including Zoe Saldana, Karla Sofia Gascon, and Selena Gomez— the film has been the talk of the town worldwide, and also tipped to win big at Hollywood's biggest night - The Oscars.

The film has already secured four Golden Globe Awards, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy and Best Foreign Film, and triumphed at the BAFTAs with Best Film Not in the English Language and Best Supporting Actress.

Set against the volatile world of the Mexican cartel, the film tells the gripping story of reinvention and self-discovery. It follows overworked lawyer Rita (Zoe), who is unexpectedly hired by the ruthless drug lord Manitas Del Monte (Karla) to help him disappear and transition into Emilia Perez—the woman he has always longed to be. While Rita arranges a secret series of surgeries and stages Manitas’ death, his wife Jessi (Selena) remains unaware of the transformation. As Emilia embraces her new identity, the past resurfaces, threatening to unravel everything in this deeply emotional and suspenseful odyssey.

Premiering at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, the film received a standing ovation and was honoured with the prestigious Jury Prize. Its leading trio also made history by jointly winning Best Actress for their performances.
