Orlando Pride star Alex Morgan announces birth of daughter

ORLANDO, Fla. _ U.S. women's national team star Alex Morgan and husband Servando Carrasco welcomed their first child on Thursday. The couple named their daughter Charlie Elena Carrasco.

The baby arrived well past her due date, weighing in at eight pounds and five ounces.

"She made us wait longer than expected, but I should have known she would do it her way and only her way," Morgan posted on Twitter.

A two-time World Cup champion and Olympic gold medal winner for the U.S., Morgan served as one of the team captains for the Orlando Pride during the past two years. Her husband previously played for Orlando City.

Carrasco posted on Instagram, "Charlie Elena Carrasco, we love you so much baby girl. Alex you're such a warrior. 5/7/20 _ best day of my life."

Morgan has worked out throughout her pregnancy, initially vowing to return to full strength in time for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics before the Games were postponed for a year due to the coronavirus pandemic. She trained with her U.S. teammates in California in February while she was in her third trimester and continued working out in the weeks leading up to her delivery.

Morgan is the second mother on the Orlando Pride roster, joining Sydney Leroux, who missed most of the 2019 season due to the birth of daughter Roux. Morgan will also be the second mother on the U.S. women's national team roster, joining forward Jessica McDonald.
