Orioles Official Offers Update on Timeline of Suspended Broadcaster’s Return

The Orioles landed in the headlines Monday when reports suggested that the team suspended play-by-play announcer Kevin Brown for making an on-air comment about Baltimore’s past struggles against the Rays.

However, a new report Monday evening suggested that Brown's return might be on the horizon.

“We don’t comment on employment decisions, however, Kevin Brown will be back with us in the near future,” an Orioles official told Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner.

Brown has not appeared on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network’s television broadcast since Baltimore’s series against Tampa Bay from July 20 to 23.

During pregame coverage of that series’s finale—a 5–3 Orioles win—Brown noted that Baltimore “had already gone 3–2 at [Tropicana Field] this year after only winning three of 18 the previous three years combined.”

Reports suggested Orioles owner John Angelos took exception to Brown's statement and he was removed from television broadcasts indefinitely; he has only appeared since on radio broadcasts during a three-game series against the Phillies from July 24 to 26.

After missing out on the playoffs for the past six seasons, the Orioles currently own the American League’s best record (70–42).
