Only one Bristol area has seen a rise in coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours

Only one Bristol area has seen a rise in coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours.

The latest figures published by the government on Sunday show how the number of new confirmed coronavirus cases across the area seems to be stabilising.

North Somerset now has 487 confirmed cases - an increase of one in the past 24 hours.

However, the number of confirmed cases for the other Bristol areas has remained unchanged since Saturday.

Bristol has 722 confirmed cases, which means Bristol has seen an increase of 13 cases since Friday, June 12 - taking the daily average rise to less than 2.

On the other hand, Bath and North Somerset (237) and South Gloucestershire, which has 406 confirmed cases, have not seen a rise in cases since Tuesday, June 9.

Regional deaths for the last 24 hours have not yet been published, with the latest figures on deaths from coronavirus at hospitals in the Bristol area being released on Saturday.

At the University Hospitals Bristol and Weston NHS Trust, the total number of deaths is now at 143.

The UHBW trust runs the Bristol Royal Infirmary and Weston General Hospital - following a merger on April 1 - as well as several other hospitals in Bristol.

North Bristol NHS Trust - which covers Southmead Hospital and Cossham Hospital - has had 118 coronavirus-related deaths, an increase of one since Wednesday, June 3.

As of Sunday, June 21 at 4pm there are now 304,331 confirmed coronavirus cases across the UK - which is a daily increase of 1,221.

A total of 43 coronavirus deaths have been recorded in the past 24 hours, bringing the UK total for coronavirus associated deaths to 42,632.

Last Monday (June 15) saw the biggest easing yet of the lockdown law in England with non-essential shops being allowed to reopen.

Ministers will announce next week whether the two-metre social distancing rule in England will be relaxed, Chancellor Rishi Sunak has said.

He revealed the Government has been considering expert advice amid concerns many businesses will not survive under current restrictions.

Mr Sunak told the BBC the result of the review will "make an enormous difference" to businesses "keen to see a change".
