Only 17 Edinburgh neighbourhoods have ‘suppressed’ Covid as cases continue to climb

Only 17 areas in Edinburgh are ‘suppressing’ the coronavirus, as cases continue to climb in the capital.

Areas such as Drylaw, Farmilehead, and Longstone and Saughton are reporting over 400 cases in the last seven day period as Edinburgh edges closer to a level three threshold.

Due to the five indicators for tier thresholds in Scotland, many of the neighbourhoods in Edinburgh are well over the quota for number of positive cases per 100,000.

However, due to the low numbers of people in ICU, and the rate of vaccinations, the City of Edinburgh is still in level two restrictions for now.

Listed below are the areas of Edinburgh which are reporting under 50 positive cases of the virus over the past week.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon first placed the City of Edinburgh into level two restrictions on the 17th of May, and had originally planned to move the capital into level one at the beginning of June.

However, she stated there could have been an argument to place Edinburgh into level three instead, as cases continue to climb across the city.

As it stands, there are no plans to change restriction levels, but you can keep up to date with the announcements as they come on our live blog.
