One-Two Punch: 4 times the top 2 seeds were knocked out in the NFL playoffs since 1975

The Los Angeles Rams knocked off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Sunday afternoon at Raymond James Stadium.

Combined with the San Francisco 49ers edging the Green Bay Packers 19-16 off the boot of Robbie Gould, and the NFC saw its top seeds decapitated.

How many times has that happened in NFL history? Here is a look at all four instances, including today, that the two top seeds in a conference lost.

And 1975 wasn’t chosen an arbitrary year because Jaws was the most pivotal event in human history. 1975 was the first year the NFL implemented a seeding system as opposed to having division winners rotate home-field advantage.
