‘One or two moves’ - Steven Gerrard sent Liverpool message by ex-teammate as Aston Villa claim made

Steven Gerrard has been told that he needs 'one or two more moves' before becoming manager of Liverpool.

The Reds legend is currently in charge of Glasgow Rangers but it has been claimed by Sky Sports that he is 'open' to taking over at Liverpool's Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

Gerrard has spent three years managing the Gers and last season guided the club to a first Scottish Premiership title in a decade.

The 41-year-old left Liverpool as a player in 2015 but returned in 2017 to manage the club’s Under-18 side.

After a year at Kirkby, Gerrard got his first job in senior football management when he moved to Rangers in 2018.

Reports have claimed that Gerrard is 'interested' in the managerial job at Villa, who are looking for a replacement for the sacked Dean Smith.

Former Liverpool full-back John Arne Riise has said that Gerrard is not ready to manage the Reds but taking over at Villa Park would be 'perfect' for him.

“I heard the rumours as well, and if he’s going to move from Glasgow it’s going to be a great step forward for him,” Riise told Talksport.

He continued: “Going from Glasgow to Liverpool would be too big a step [for him].

“I think he wants one or two more moves before he eventually goes to Liverpool.

“Aston Villa is a great club, a big club, and a perfect step for him if he decides to move.”
