'One of the biggest clubs': Yoane Wissa first words after joining Newcastle from Brentford on Deadline Day

Newcastle have confirmed the signing of Yoane Wissa from Brentford.

Brentford had been keen to keep hold of Wissa, especially in a summer where they’ve lost Thomas Frank, Bryan Mbeumo and Christian Norgaard to Tottenham, Manchester United and Arsenal respectively.

The club had even previously rejected two bids for Wissa, the most recent totalling £40million.

However, they accepted an offer worth up to £55m from Newcastle ahead of transfer deadline day and the 28-year-old has now finalised his move to St James’ Park following a successful medical.

Wissa will further bolster the Magpies’ attacking options that also includes fellow new signing Nick Woltemade after he completed a club-record move from Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart over the weekend.

Speaking after the deal was confirmed, Wissa said: "I'm really happy to be here and to sign for one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.

"I'm very, very excited to put on the black and white shirt. I've got dreams, I've got faith and now I will do my best to make it all happen. I can't wait to get started."

Wissa is Newcastle’s fifth major arrival of the summer transfer window after Woltemade, Anthony Elanga, Jacob Ramsey, Malick Thiaw and Aaron Ramsdale.

The DR Congo international’s has been made possible following Newcastle selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a club record and British transfer record.
