One man taken to hospital after 'serious collision' on A19 Southbound

One man has been taken to hospital after suffering 'significant injuries' following a 'serious collision' on the A19.

The A19 Southbound was closed between A182 Murton and A182 Hall Walks Easington at around 7.30pm on Thursday, March 4.

A statement on the Highways England said there had been a 'serious collision' on the road involving two vehicles, with one vehicle overturning.

The statement said: "The A19 in County Durham is closed southbound between the A182 (near Murton) and A1086 (near Easington), due to a serious collision involving 2 vehicles. One of the vehicles has overturned and come to rest on its roof."

"All emergency services are in attendance along with Highways England Traffic Officers.

"Collision investigation work will be carried out. Once complete, vehicle recovery and collision clear-up work can begin. The closure is expected to be in place for several hours."

Durham police confirmed that a man had been taken to hospital with 'significant injuries' believed to be non life-threatening.

Police also said the road will remain closed for several hours to allow for recovery work. Diversions have been put in place while the road is closed.

In a statement, Highways England provided diversion directions: "Road users are advised to follow the solid black diamond diversion symbol, and exit the A19 southbound on to the exit slip road for the A182 Cold Hesledon.

"At the top of the slip road, take the 3rd exit on to the B1285. Travel along the B1285 until the junction with the B1432. Travel south east on the B1432 until the junction with the B1283. Turn right on to the B1283 and rejoin the A19.

"Please allow plenty of extra time for your journey if you're travelling in the area."
