One killed as violence, rigging claims rock first phase of PoJK polls

The first phase of elections in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoJK) was marred by violence on Monday, with rival political parties accusing each other of electoral malpractice after a political worker was killed and several others were injured during polling conducted in illegally occupied Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

However, eyewitnesses claimed that at least 14 people were killed in police firing in Rawalakot last evening. Imtiaz Aslam, core member, Joint Awami Action Committee, said: "Pakistan terrorist forces fired upon our innocent youth today; as a result, 14 of our young men were killed. I make an earnest appeal to overseas Kashmiris: you must stage protests outside Pakistani embassies, human rights organisations worldwide, and the UN."
