One arrested as footage shows dozens attending lockdown defying party at Drimnagh apartment complex

A young man has been arrested after gardai were forced to break up a rowdy lockdown-defying party attended by dozens of people at a south Dublin apartment complex.

Fed up residents were kept up well into the early hours of Sunday morning by the noisy revellers in Drimnagh.

One resident told Dublin Live she was worried for her safety after things became heated when gardai arrived to break up the shindig.

She said: "One of the party goers appeared to be having an argument with the garda. It was just so scary."

Footage from the building shows dozens of party goers leave the complex after they were ordered to leave.

Under new lockdown rules that came into place today visits to private homes and gardens are only allowed from one other household up to and including December 31.

Until last night, visits were allowed from a maximum of two other households.

A garda spokesman confirmed to Dublin Live that they had attended the scene and one man had been arrested.

He said: "At approximately 3:30am on Sunday, 27th December, 2020, Gardaí responded to reports of a large group gathered outside an apartment complex in Drimnagh, Dublin 12.

"One man, aged in his 20s, was arrested for Public Order Offences and taken to Crumlin Garda Station.

"He has since been charged and will appear before the courts at a later date."
