'On everyone's lips' - Ben Doak's Liverpool rise comes as no surprise to former Scotland star

It comes as no surprise to anyone in Scotland just how well Ben Doak is doing at Liverpool, according to former Rangers striker Kenny Miller.

Doak made his Premier League debut when coming on as a substitute during Liverpool's win away at Aston Villa on Boxing Day at the tender age of 17. That came on the back of the £600,000 signing from Celtic catching the eye during the Reds' mid-season training camp in Dubai, where he stepped off the bench to set up Darwin Nunez for a brilliant goal in the 4-1 victory over AC Milan.

Doak is now really making a name for himself but Miller, who played alongside another of Scotland's great young hopes, Billy Gilmour, before he swapped Rangers for Chelsea at 16, had already heard the whispers.

Miller, who won 69 caps and scored 18 goals for Scotland, told Grosvenor Sport : "I've not seen much of Doak so far, but I've heard about him for a few seasons now and he's been a name up in Scotland that's been on everyone's lips because of his attributes.

"He's gone to Liverpool and has really taken off which I think everyone expected him to do because he's a wonderful young talent.

"Similarly, I knew Billy Gilmour at Rangers. He had similar hype surrounding him and I knew his mentality and character. He was always willing to learn and was probably the hardest-working player as well. I always knew he'd succeed."
