Forget the sideburns talk, this Olympic games has been all about a shorn side, as in gymnasts Brit Louis Smith and German Marcel Nguyen. Just look at their trendsetting hair! Modern and workable on a vault Photograph: Matt Dunham/AP
You ain't no-one at London 2012 unless you've got a reflective spec. Check silver medalist Michael Jamieson and the bulk of the rowers for examples Photograph: Tom Jenkins/NOPP
Russia's shell suit jacket has come in for flak. Jog on, I say. This paisley-like print, with it's Moschino-meets- Christopher Shannon attitude, is smoking. And as for Ryan Lochte's trunks, now don't they just put the jazz into jazzy? The funk into trunk. And so on. Fancy print - it's a man-trend at London 2012 Photograph: Barbara Walton/EPA
On paper, yellow and jade sounds God awful. On the Aussie dudes, it just works. From the gym kit, to the hockey gang and the rowers, this strip colour combo gets it right because it's bold and dynamic without being silly. Note: yellow is a big catwalk trend for 2013 too Photograph: Eranga Jayawardena/AP
Good work the Netherlands. In an opening ceremony brimming with colour, this team managed to stand out. The orange and cobalt combo is a rather Raf Simons era Jil Sander menswear. Coloured trousers are very on-trend. Macs are far less dull than blazers. Preppy cricket/tennis jumpers are a perennial Brit fashion reference and so a nice nod to the host country. An all-round triumph, chaps Photograph: Andy Rain/EPA
During the opening ceremony, it seemed as though the lead colour trends would be yellow, red or white. But cobalt has emerged as a key player in the games proper, seen here on France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. It also cropped up at the judo (loving the jackets btw), the water polo, the boxing, the swimming and gymnastics. Even Kate Middleton wore some to watch Andy Murray Photograph: Martin Bernetti/AFP/Getty Images
Ignore the primary colour track top with its Lego tendencies and focus on those white stars that dance across the front. Very Givenchy menswear. Hi-five to Venezuela for clearly knowing the fashion motif du jour Photograph: Hannah Johnston/Getty Images
Stella McCartney's Team GB outfits have a brilliant sense of the graphic about them. The red trim on Murray's top and sleeve has that outlining effect, while the group effect of the vests, especially when you see them on a boat in motion, has real visual impact. Prada's most recent menswear show was all about graphic outlining, so it's a look that has crossover potential Photograph: Clive Brunskill/Getty
Talking of Prada's latest menswear, it also featured women (confusing, I know) in tennis head bands. Ergo: sweatbands are in Photograph: BAZUKI MUHAMMAD/REUTERS
If the Olympics is nothing else, it is trainer porn. With that in mind, let us salute Malaysia's badminton boys Boon Heong Tan (left) and Kien Keat Koo in their co-ordinating gold and metallic blue trainers. Metallic for men is a big look for 2013 too, being backed by the likes of Burberry, which makes this London 2012 double sighting all the more on trend Photograph: BAZUKI MUHAMMAD/REUTERS
