Olivia Rodrigo's Glastonbury set 'censored' by BBC as fans complain

Fans have complained after the BBC took the decision to 'cut' key sections of Olivia Rodrigo's performance at Glastonbury, including her duet with Lily Allen.

The young singer shot to worldwide fame at the start of 2021 with her track Drivers' License and drew quite a crowd at the Other Stage on Saturday as fans clamoured to see her performance at the world famous festival. One of the most talked about moments from Olivia's best saw her deliver a powerful speech about the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v Wade, and allow states across America to ban access to abortions.

Condemning the move, Olivia said: "I’m devastated and terrified. So many women and so many girls are going to die because of this. I wanted to dedicate this next song to the five members of the Supreme Court who have showed us that at the end of the day, they truly don’t give a shit about freedom. The song is for the justices: Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, Brett Kavanaugh. We hate you! We hate you.”

The song Olivia chose to reflect her sustain for the decision was Lily Allen's F**k You, with Lily joining her on the Glastonbury stage as a special guest. However, both the speech on Roe v Wade and F**k You are missing from the coverage of Olivia's set available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

Incensed by the BBC's course of action, one unimpressed viewer took to Twitter to berate the broadcaster, fuming: "Hey, @BBC why have you removed this song from Olivia Rodrigo's set on the iPlayer? Too strong language? How about: not strong enough, seeing what's being done to women? Our kids need to learn they *have to* say F***! to that and demand better."

A second tweeted: "ok so why has iplayer cut the bit from olivia rodrigo's set where she talks about the supreme court and sings f**k you with lily allen ??? something ain't right there,," with a third raging: "Lily Allen and Olivia Rodrigo at Glastonbury. Why this was cut from @BBC IPlayer? The Supreme Court decision is far more obscene than mere words."

The BBC have since issued a statement on the matter, saying that the decision to cut F**k You and the powerful lead in to it was purely down to "strong language," and nothing else. The song and the intro have been uploaded to the BBC Music YouTube channel.

The Roe v Wade controversy was also spoken about on stage at Glastonbury by the likes of Billie Eiliish and Phoebe Bridges.
