Olivia Pratt-Korbel: Police 'given name' of gunman who shot dead girl, 9, in her home

Police have allegedly been 'given the name' of a gunman who shot dead a nine-year-old girl at her family home in Liverpool.

Little Olivia Pratt-Korbel died after being blasted in the chest when she was standing behind her mum Cheryl at the foot of the stairs after a gunman opened fire through a gap in the doorway at the front of her home on Monday night.

Cheryl had opened the front door to see what was happening outside before a 35-year-old man forced his way into her home, followed by the armed man.

Neither man are believed to have been known to the family.

The man who forced his way into Olivia's home while fleeing the gunman has now been arrested, police have confirmed.

The BBC reported that as of Wednesday morning two sources had come forward and given the same name to Merseyside Police as part of their ongoing search for the shooter.

And Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner Emily Spurrell has said: "I'm really pleased to hear information is coming forward.

"It was the plea that was put out yesterday - we know somebody out there will know what happened and who is involved."

PCC Spurrell's comments come as the people of Liverpool have been urged to turn in the masked gunman who killed the nine-year-old girl.

Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy said the "shocking" killing of Olivia Pratt-Korbel "crosses every single boundary" as the force appealed to the "criminal fraternity" in Liverpool for information.

Ms Kennedy told a press conference on Tuesday: "This is a shocking and appalling attack which will reverberate around our communities, and I want to take this opportunity again to appeal to anybody who knows who was responsible for this attack to please come forward and give us those names.

"We need to find all who are responsible for - not just the gunman, we need to find who supplied the weapon and who arranged this terrible incident."

Police launched a manhunt for the "cowardly" killer after he fled the scene following the horror attack.

A number of shots were fired during the incident before one bullet hit Cheryl in the wrist and Olivia in the chest.

Cheryl had desperately tried to barricade the door as bullets blasted into their home, reports the Sun.

Hours after Olivia had been named as the victim, Luke Korbel, who is believed to be her cousin, wrote on Facebook: “What the f***s the world come to ay?

“The most cleverest 9 year old your going to get, had the brain like an 18 year old she did, most funniest and politest always had a smile on her face.

""e all know you will keep smiling up there, your going to be missed be each and every single one of us you really are, Liv.”

Neighbours said they heard at least four shots as well as Olivia's mum screaming.

Horrifically, a black Audi soon arrived to the scene to transport the injured man to hospital, leaving Olivia dying on the floor of her home.

Officers then arrived and the scene and rushed Olivia to Alder Hey before North West Ambulance Service took her mum to Aintree Hospital, reports the Liverpool Echo.

Olivia later died at the children's hospital.

Olivia went to St Margaret Mary's Catholic Junior School in Huyton, where she was thought of as a kind-hearted, helpful and happy little girl, according to her headteacher Rebecca Wilkinson.

She said: "Olivia was a much-loved member of our school. She had a beautiful smile, a lovely sense of humour and a bubbly personality.

"She was kind-hearted and would go out of her way to help others."

Pupils of the school have visited the scene to put down teddies and flowers.

Family members have also placed down tributes. A handwritten note on one of the bouquets of flowers reads: "RIP baby girl , can't believe what has happened, feels like a nightmare. We will miss you so much our sassy queen. Love aunty Kim and uncle Tony."

Another reads: "Our Liv, our brown-eyed sassy pants. I will never find the words to describe the heartache we have all felt. I'll miss your outgoing, sassy little self and all the joy, laughs, smiles, love you brought to our lives. Love you forever and always."

Prime Minister Boris Johnson described the shooting as an "unimaginable tragedy" and promised that Merseyside Police would get "whatever they need to catch those responsible".
