Olivia Dean and Sam Fender’s smash-hit Rein Me In has broken a record set in the 1950s for the longest-running number one single, according to the Official Charts Company.
The track, which was released in June 2025, has made history after spending 19 non-consecutive weeks at the summit.
It has surpassed I Believe by Frankie Laine, which enjoyed the title of longest-running number one for 73 years after an 18-week run at the top of the charts in 1953.
Award-winning musician Fender, who was presented with an Official Chart record breaker award to commemorate the feat, said: “Completely lost for words.
“Thank you so much to Olivia Dean and the fans for making this song the juggernaut that it is.
“Can’t believe we broke the UK record!”
Becca Monahan and Chris Austin, interim co-managing directors at the Official Charts Company, said the record-breaking feat “feels especially significant” coming from “two homegrown British artists”.
“At a time when UK artists are competing on a truly global stage, this is a fantastic moment to celebrate British creativity – and a record-breaking number one that will now sit proudly in the history books,” they added.
Rein Me In, which was crowned song of the year at the Brit Awards 2026, recently made chart history as the longest-running number one single of all time by a British act.
The hit track has also fuelled Dean’s rapid rise to stardom, which has led to major wins at the Grammys, Brits and Mobos.
It is followed by Dai Dai by Shakira and Burna Boy – the official anthem of the 2026 Fifa World Cup – at number two while Choosin’ Texas by Ella Langley is at three.
The top five is completed by Olivia Rodrigo with Stupid Song at four and Talk To You by Anotr/54 at five.
On the albums chart, Charli XCX is also making history as the first British female artist to earn two number one albums in the same year.
Charli XCX has joined the likes of The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John and Ed Sheeran in achieving the feat with her latest record Music, Fashion, Film, which was released on Friday.
It marks her fourth number one record and joins her Wuthering Heights companion album to Emerald Fennell’s film of the same name, which reached the top spot in February.
Music, Fashion, Film has also topped the UK vinyl albums chart for the most physical records sold.
Michael Jackson’s compilation album The Essential sits at two amid an ongoing resurgence for the late singer – nicknamed the King of Pop – sparked by the release of a biopic film depicting his life.
Rodrigo is at three with her chart-topping album You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, which landed her the biggest opening week of her career after its release last month.
Following at four is Snow Patrol, who have revisited their 2006 record Eyes Open for its 20th anniversary, while Dean’s award-winning album The Art Of Loving is at five.
