Olivier Giroud compared to Sergio Aguero by former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas

Cesc Fabregas has compared Olivier Giroud to Sergio Aguero after he scored for Chelsea against Manchester United.

The Blues were looking to build on their midweek 1-0 victory over already-relegated Norwich City in the Premier League and progress to the FA Cup Final and book an all-London affair with Arsenal on August 1.

Frank Lampard’s side dominated the opening stages of the half but found clear cut chances hard to come by.

However, in the 11th minute of first-half stoppage time, the Blues took a deserved lead into the half-time interval.

Cesar Azpilicueta put the ball into the box and Giroud got ahead of Victor Lindelof and poked the ball past David de Gea.

And Fabregas, taking to social media after the goal, was quick to highlight and praise the run the Frenchman made ahead of scoring.

He wrote: “Oli is one of the best making these little runs to the first post to score goals. Aguero another one. Fantastic mentality.”

“Chelsea have dominated that half from start to finish,” Alan Shearer said at half-time.

“They are the team that has created chances and they have pressed high. Manchester United have not caused them one problem.”

While Martin Keown said on the goal: “It's a great ball in by Cesar Azpilicueta and Olivier Giroud has too much on it for the keeper.

“It is coming at David de Gea quickly, but he would want to do better than that.”
