Oleksandr Zinchenko explains how Mikel Arteta and Pep Guardiola are the same amid Arsenal U-turn

Arsenal's transfer business conducted in the summer has played an enormous role in their impressive 2022/23 season. The Gunners have transformed from a side failing to see out a UEFA Champions League spot to league leaders within the space of nine months.

Five players were signed before the start of the season. Youngsters Marquinhos and Fabio Vieira arrived with an eye for the future and USMNT goalkeeper Matt Turner came in as Aaron Ramsdale's replacement. But the business completed with Manchester City has been the most impressive.

Gabriel Jesus switched Pep Guardiola's selection roulette to feature as Mikel Arteta's first choice striker and Oleksandr Zinchenko reunited with the Spaniard to offer his invaluable versatility services. The pair's services have played a pivotal role in Arsenal's impressive rise to the top of the table, with some even critiquing City's decision to sanction the deals.

With Arteta's delicate squad building in north London alongside his style of play often seen in Manchester, Arsenal are on course to win their first Premier League title since 2004. Many in the footballing world are not shocked by Arteta's turnaround after he spent three years as Guardiola's assistant.

Comparisons between the two tactical geniuses have, of course, been made. The simple, but effective, inverted wing-back role deployed by both have brought success, whilst the deployment of a false nine in attack has placed further emphasis onto alternative figures in the forward areas.

Arteta has only just started his managerial journey whilst Guardiola has made himself one of the most decorated managers in world football. But what is the difference between the two former Spanish midfielders?

In an interview with VBET News, Zinchenko has revealed that there are several similarities. "I knew Mikel since City and I always knew that he is an amazing manager," the Ukrainian said.

"There is a lot of similarities between Arteta and Guardiola but obviously everyone is a bit different and still there is some difference between them as well. But the similarity is that both of them want to win every single game and that's the most important thing."
