Liverpool legend Did Hamann predicted Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be sacked "soon" as he tore into Manchester United's recent performances.
Solskjaer has led the Red Devils on a poor run of form with just two wins in their last six outings in all competitions.
Both of these victories relied on last-minute heroics after unconvincing performances, with David de Gea saving a West Ham penalty and Cristiano Ronaldo scoring a 95th-minute winner against Villarreal.
Meanwhile, United suffered an embarrassing Champions League defeat by Young Boys and exited the Carabao Cup at the third round with a 1-0 loss at home to the Irons.
Their results in the Premier League also make for bleak reading, with Solskjaer's side losing 1-0 and drawing 1-1 at Old Trafford against Aston Villa and Everton respectively.
Hamann claims the only ray of light for United over the last few weeks has been Cristiano Ronaldo, who is the club's top scorer with five goals in six games.
But the former Germany midfielder insists Ronaldo cannot mask the Red Devils' glaring issues, including the underperformance of Jadon Sancho and "pathetic" team displays.
"The one and only reason why Manchester United are still in the title race and doing alright in the Champions League is Cristiano Ronaldo," Hamann told Sky Sports .
"I don’t know where they would be without him or his goals. It is all patchwork. Old Trafford, that used to be the Theatre of Dreams, now it is more like the Theatre of Nightmares.
"Their performances are pathetic. At the moment, they just don’t play good football. Jadon Sancho is way behind expectations, which I don’t understand."

As a result of the team's many shortcomings under Solskjaer, Hamann claims there can only be one course of action for Old Trafford chiefs.
"Now I believe the pressure on the manager will grow a lot," said Hamann of Solskjaer. "I believe it is a matter of when – not if – they sack him, because he has been there too long for you not to see any progression.
"They still play the same football which is not good to watch. That is not Manchester United.
"I think there will be a change of manager soon. Whether the new manager will be able to utilise their potential, we will have to see."
Despite Hamann's claims, Solskjaer insisted he is still the man to take United forward after the 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday.
"I’m very confident that we will get the best out of this squad," he said, adding: "I believe in these players, I believe in the coaching staff and I believe we have something going."
