Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's cheeky dig at Gary Neville after burning Man Utd transfer question

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has aimed a cheeky dig at Gary Neville after the pundit questioned who Manchester United's first-choice keeper is.

David de Gea started last season with the no.1 jersey before Dean Henderson took it off him in the second half of the campaign.

It remains to be seen who will be top dog for the upcoming Premier League term, which prompted former United defender Neville to say he preferred when a team has an out-and-out first choice in between the sticks.

Tom Heaton has also joined the club this summer, providing more competition, as Solskjaer was asked if either de Gea or Henderson would be heading in the other direction before the transfer window shuts.

David de Gea or Dean Henderson - Who should be Man United's no.1 keeper? Comment below

He said: "It depends on the characters you've got and how they gel. It's healthy competition.

"If you're too comfortable, I don't think you get the best out of yourself.

"You need an edge, and you need an edge of "if I don't perform, someone else is going to take my place," but it has to be healthy for the team and healthy for the group. If it's toxic and it's energy-sapping, that's not great.

"Last year, it was a new situation for David and a new situation for Dean. This year, let's see how it works out."

The Old Trafford boss also poked fun at former teammate Neville for his comments, suggesting he wasn't the first choice right-back during their time at the club.

He added: "I enjoyed having one first-choice right-back when I played but I never had one!"

Paul Pogba returned to training on Thursday and Solskjaer insists his talks with him have been "positive" despite the midfielder rejecting a new contract.

He said: "When you sign for Manchester United, you have to rise to the challenge. Paul has come back and he's fresh, and he's always such a positive boy. The talks I've had with him have all been positive."
