Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pleased with three things Manchester United youngsters did vs Spurs

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Manchester United's pre-season form indicates the club are developing their academy players in the right way.

Angel Gomes scored his first senior goal for United to clinch a 2-1 win over Tottenham in Shanghai and all nine of United's goals on tour were either assisted or scored by an academy player.

Gomes was one of four teenagers included in Solskjaer's tour squad and the 17-year-old Mason Greenwood scored in the victories over Leeds United and Inter Milan, while James Garner struck in the opening stroll against Perth Glory.

Tahith Chong excelled over the course of his three appearances and Solskjaer is also set to include Axel Tuanzebe in his first-team squad for the upcoming campaign. Amid the restructuring of the United academy, Solskjaer is pleased the first-team is bearing the fruits of their homegrown talents.

"It means a lot for us," Solskjaer said. "And it means we are getting good young players through and both goals today, great interplay down the sides, quick change of tempo and some good finishing.

"So that has always been a part of us and in that end of the pitch - the creative part and the goalscoring part - it's nice to put youngsters on and they can only surprise you and please you."

Of his goal, Gomes said: "We have had a great tour. The team has gelled and so have the new signings. It shows what the club is trying to do bringing the youth products through.

"I was getting a bit of stick off a few players because I hadn't scored. It was hot and humid and we had to try and control the game - find the right time to attack and keep the ball.

"It came off in the end."
