Ole Gunnar Solskjaer names areas for Manchester United to improve

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has every reason to feel satisfied with Manchester Uniuted's pre-season campaign so far, but before his squad flew back to the United Kingdom, he named the areas in which he wants his side to improve.

United's two goal-scorers in their 2-1 victory over Tottenham — Angel Gomes and Anthony Martial — were both picked out for praise by Solskjaer, but the Norwegian is insistent that his players retain possession better and remain sharp immediately after kicking off.

He will demand improvement from his players in their remaining pre-season friendlies, against Kristiansund in Oslo and AC Milan in Cardiff, before the Premier League opener against Chelsea in little more than a fortnight.

“Yeah, it was hard, it was hard work," he told MUTV when asked about the Spurs game.

"We made it harder than we had to. In the second half, I thought we didn’t keep the ball so when you’ve got the kick-off and you get a throw-in against you in the corner after 10 seconds, that’s not a great start, is it?

"We wanted to get on the front foot, pass the ball, get on the ball but they made it hard for themselves.“

United had led at half-time through Martial's goal after a dominant first half display, but they relinquished the lead to a Lucas Moura leveller after the break and had Angel Gomes to thank for restoring the lead.

"It was a great goal by Angel  – a great response," added Solskjaer.

"The little boy is bright and sharp. A great finish, so I’m delighted for him because he’s been, since day one, really sharp in pre-season so we have high hopes for him. All in all, the tour has been very good.”
