Ole Gunnar Solskjaer latest: New Man Utd boss jokes he'll test how good David de Gea really is in training

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed he spoke to the ‘best goalkeeper in the world’ David de Gea over retaining the services of Manchester United goalkeeper coach Emilio Alvarez.

Treble hero Solskjaer was unveiled as United’s new interim manager on Wednesday following the dismissal of Jose Mourinho earlier this week. Most of Mourinho’s backroom staff have followed him out of the club with the exception of Alvarez.

Speaking to MUTV in his first interview since returning to the club, Solskjaer hailed the club’s current number one, but joked he may have to pull his boots back on again to test how good the Spaniard really is.

"I've spoken to David and Emilio of course, and David, he loves Emilio. He really, really is so complimentary about him," Solskjaer said.

"We have the best goalkeeper in the world. He's been player of the year so many years now, he's been here for eight years, he is still a young keeper developing.

"That's fantastic for me to come in. Maybe I'll have to do some finishing training with him just to peg him down a little bit!"

Solskjaer’s first game in charge is on Saturday against Cardiff City; the club who gave the Norwegian his first job in English football onto to be sacked nine months later.
