Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirms Manchester United loan stance

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has confirmed Manchester United will continue to loan out their most exciting young players in the coming transfer windows.

United allowed 11 players to leave the club on temporary deals last summer as they prioritised individual development ahead of their own interests at reserve level.

It has been a mixed bag for those allowed to leave on loan last year with the likes of James Garner and Di'Shon Bernard both excelling in the football league at Watford and Salford respectively, while others like Matej Kovar gained priceless experience despite being involved in a relegation battle with Swindon.

Kovar and teammate Dylan Levitt were both recalled from their loan spells last week but will be allowed to leave again by the end of the month if an appropriate offer comes in.

United have been careful to try and match players to clubs where they think they will fit in well, and although not every deal comes works out, there is still more positives than negatives to take from the approach.

Ethan Laird was the latest youngster to leave the club when he joined MK Dons last week, while young goalkeeper Nathan Bishop is now also set for a loan exit after he signed a new deal with the club.

“Yes, I think Nathan’s next step should be a loan deal," Solskjaer told club media of Bishop. "He could be ready for the Championship or League One for sure. Ethan coming on against Burnley (in the FA Cup at the weekend) will have been a good test for him.

"The young boys need a step up from the U23s, because sometimes that level doesn’t prepare you for a man’s game.”
