PATIALA: Man Kaur, 105, country’s oldest and fastest woman athlete, passed away on Saturday afternoon in a private Ayurvedic hospital in Dera Bassi after battling with the Cancer for around 15 days in the hospital. The family said that she died of a heart attack at around 1 PM on Saturday.
Living in the accommodation at Punjabi University Patiala for the past many years, oldest athlete Man Kaur was recently detected with cancer in February this year and had undergone treatment at Indore based private hospital.
The family claimed that her health deteriorated in the last few days following which she was hospitalized for treatment at Ayurvedic hospital in Dera Bassi. Last month, the family members had hospitalized Man Kaur in a private hospital in Indore after she was diagnosed with cancer.
“I took my mother to the hospital in Patiala after she complained of pains in her liver and gallbladder and she was diagnosed with Cancer. Later, PGI Chandigarh reports also confirmed the same. We did not prefer to get her treated from PGI Chandigarh as she was too old to survive any chemotherapy. Hence, we took her to Indore based private hospital last month where her infection came down and she was quite normal in only two days of treatment. We came back home but now again she faced health problems, following which we took her to a private hospital in Dera Bassi where she breathed her last at 1 PM. She was hospitalized for over the last 15 days”, said Gurdev Singh, 82-year-old son of Man Kaur. He added that cremation will be done in Chandigarh on Saturday.
“The doctors revealed that she is having cancer in Gallbladder and liver. We did not want her to get chemotherapy treatment. Now we are getting treatment from a cancer hospital in Indore and the hospital is providing us free of cost treatment. They had recently sent some medicines”, he said.
Gurdev Singh, said that his mother faced cancer only due to COVID that had restricted her physical activities and her visit outside. He said that Man Kaur avoided moving out to carry out any physical activity or practicing athlete and since the last few months she also faced hearing problems.
