Old trainers hack that gives them 'new lease of life' shared by mum

A woman who was about to throw away her trainers managed to give them a "new lease of life", and has shared how she did it.

Everybody who has ever owned white shoes will know how quickly they can become grotty. While cleaning off the dirt and grime regularly can help, eventually they will be past the point of no return.

That's exactly what happened to one Facebook user, who was about to throw her Vans in the bin, before trying one last idea to make them more attractive. She purchased a packet of Dylon dye and used them on the shoes — and was amazed by the results.

Taking to Facebook to share pictures of the sneakers before and after, she wrote: "I bought some white Vans a few years ago. Needless to stay they didn’t stay white for very long. Was going to throw them away but decided to try dying them. Dye was £5.99.

"They have a new lease of life. I would have thrown them away but now will definitely wear them again."

She added: "I used a large packet of Dylon in blue jeans colour. The stitching/tab/soles etc stayed white. I had no idea what would happen but wouldn’t have been bothered either way. I have since learnt that nylon stitching and the plastic elements don’t take the dye."

Before long, the post had received more than 2,700 likes and over 250 comments. Fellow Facebook users were quick to share their thoughts on the "brilliant" idea.

One wrote: "What a great idea especially when you didn’t have anything to lose; they look fab and have plenty more wear".

A second posted: "Great idea. I've got some white Converse that are really grubby. I'm going to do this rather than throw them out. Thanks for the tip."

"I used to do this with my kids converse when they got tired, it's a great trick to keeping things fresh without breaking the bank," revealed a third.

"My white converse are looking grubby but are in great condition, this is a brilliant idea," a fourth shared.

"Wow that's such a great idea, they look new," commented a fifth, while a sixth stated: "Well done. They look almost brand new."

"Bloody brilliant," a seventh simply said, while another agreed: "They look wicked!"
