Old Post Office in Blackrock, Dublin re-opening as exciting new Chinese restaurant tonight

An old Dublin post office is being transformed into a new Chinese restaurant after undergoing a €1.6 million refurbishment.

The Old Post Office in Blackrock, Co. Dublin is set to open its doors tonight for locals to finally get a look.

Unlike traditional Chinese restaurants, it will exclusively focus on Sichuan dishes ranging from Sichuan-spiced steamed whole black sole with ginger and scallion to Irish king scallop Gung Bao.

General manager Paul Malone told The Irish Times that the emphasis on Sichuan dishes gives a nod to UK restaurants such as Hakkasan or Kai.

He also expects that customers will be a mix of Chinese diners and locals.

The restaurant was designed by the DJI Group who went for a European setting with touches of Chinese decoration.

The Old Post Office is fitted with a bar and waiting area which allows you to look into the kitchen where the chefs cook at a quality wok station.

The bar itself includes Moutai which is a distilled Chinese spirit with a distinctive taste.

The dining area gives a view of Dublin Bay from the window and allows you to step out onto the small balcony area which also has small tables to eat at.

Food prices vary ranging from €11 to €14 for soups and up to €42 for beef.

The lunchtime a la carte menu ranges from €7 to €16 with evening mains coming in at €22 to €32.
