Oktoberfest 2023: Electric Brixton to host its first-ever beer-fuelled Bavaraian knees-up

Electric Brixton, one of South London’s most eclectic live music venues, is set to host its first-ever series of Oktoberfest parties, in celebration of the beloved Bavarian end-of-harvest festival, traditionally marked by merriment, lederhosen and plentiful pints (well, steins).

The Brixton Hill venue will be transformed with traditional long wooden tables, bunting, live music from an “oompah” band and more.

Across the month, running each Saturday from October 7 to 28, as many as 2,100 attendees are expected to line Brixton Hill weekly, with the day-party lasting from 1pm – 8pm.

Each element of the events, set up by Oktoberfest UK, will have an authentically Bavarian feel, with staff dressed in traditional dirndls and lederhosen and steins-a-plenty (Spaten and Löwenbräu being the preferred choice). The expected food offering will continue the theme with German pretzels and bratwursts flown in from Germany’s Black Forest.

Adding to the German festivities, the band German Jukebox will provide the live music, with a modern, playful approach to classic oompah music, and whilst comedy and Germans might not traditionally be thought of as bedfellows, live comics are promised to entertain party-goers too.

Charlie Holden, co-founder of Oktoberfest UK told the Standard: “Fasten your lederhosen, Brixton! We’re about to transform our corner of London into the ultimate Bavarian bash, brimming with non-stop music, a smorgasbord of German delicacies, and rivers of world-class German beer.

“This isn’t just an Oktoberfest, it’s a full-blown party! Let’s fill Brixton to the brim with laughter, cheers, and a party spirit that’ll shake Oktoberfest to its core. Get ready to eat, drink, dance, and revel like never before.”
