Oil spill on Leeds Outer Ring Road sees VW Driver smash into lamppost

Police were forced to close the A6110 Leeds Outer Ring Road for an hour this morning (Wednesday) after a driver lost control of their car and collided with a lamppost.

The incident happened shortly after 6.30am when the driver of a silver Volkswagen Golf was travelling south towards the Wickes roundabout in Bramley and lost control of the vehicle after skidding on a suspected oil spillage.

They then smashed into a lamppost on the sliproad near the A647 Stanningley Bypass, with significant damage caused to the front driver's side door. Thankfully the driver only suffered minor injuries in the collision.

Traffic cops closed the sliproad as highways crews cleaned the carriageway and laid grit on the road to prevent further incidents

The road closure resulted in minor queues in the area, with a number of First Bus services diverted from their usual route, but the road reopened at around 8am.
