The Organization of Islamic Cooperation welcomed on Saturday the release of 163 prisoners from the Iran-backed Houthi militias as part of a Saudi humanitarian initiative.

It hailed the move and the previous ones that should help resolve the prisoner file in Yemen and support peace efforts in the country.

It also praised the efforts led by the International Committee of the Red Cross and United Nations in coordinating the release.

It hoped that the efforts would culminate in consolidating the truce and provide the necessary conditions for Yemeni parties to hold dialogue and reach a comprehensive political settlement to their crisis.

The Saudi-led Arab coalition had announced the prisoner release on Friday.

That same day 108 prisoners were flown to the Yemeni interim capital Aden and nine others to Houthi-held Sanaa.

The coalition said nine foreign fighters were handed over to their countries' embassies.

Thirty-seven prisoners were transported by land and handed over on humanitarian grounds. They were taken to their areas of residence on the Saudi-Yemeni border.
