Ohio State softball falls to Iowa 1-0 in weekend series opener

The Ohio State softball team is looking to fortify its position for the upcoming Big Ten Tournament. It currently sits in fourth place in the league and is looking to hold onto that spot as it plays its last regular season conference series in Iowa City. The Buckeyes don’t have a shot to catch the top three of the league, but could do some damage once in the postseason. It’ll have to try to get the next two however after dropping the first game of the series to Iowa 1-0 Friday night.

It was a pitchers dual from the start all the way through the end with both teams only combining for five hits total and the one run by the Hawkeyes.  Morgan Ray had a solid game in the circle and didn’t allow a run until the bottom of the sixth inning, but it ended up being just enough for home-standing Iowa.

It took until the fourth inning for the Buckeyes to even get a hit against Iowa pitching. They loaded the bases twice but couldn’t bring a run home — one of those ending in a double play. The loss drops Ohio State to 32-15 overall and 15-6 in the Big Ten.

The two teams will be back at it again Saturday at 2 PM for game two of the three game series.
