Ohio State RB Mike Weber will have pre-draft visit with Bears

The Chicago Bears are doing their homework on a long list of running backs for the 2019 NFL Draft, including Ohio State’s Mike Weber, who’s scheduled to visit with the team on a pre-draft visit.

Weber ran for 954 yards and five touchdowns in 2018, which certainly isn’t incredible production, but his NFL combine performance put his draft stock on the rise.

He checked in at 5-10, 211 pounds and ran one of the better 40-yard dashes of the running back group: 4.47. He added a 33.5-inch vertical and banged out 22 reps of 225 pounds.

Weber is a blue-collar prospect who doesn’t have any particularly exceptional trait, but he’s a patient running back who has enough power and elusiveness to get to the second level for some chunk plays. He looks more like a player who will contribute in running back by committee instead of being a full-time starter.

If the Bears decide to target a non-running back in the third round, Weber is the type of prospect who should still be available in the mid-to-late portion of Day 3.
