In today’s new world of big-time college athletics, a commitment doesn’t mean much these days. Fan bases get excited for the next big name, and then someone else starts flirting with the newest edition. I’m not sure there are many who understand the actual meaning of the word commitment any longer.
There has been much conversation about five-star wide receiver Jeremiah Smith, who is the No. 1 receiver in the class and an Ohio State commit, taking an official visit to Georgia. Smith maintains he is locked in as long as Ryan Day and Brian Hartline are still in Columbus, but the trip still leaves fans feeling uneasy.
Now another Buckeye commit has given OSU fans reason to worry. Five-star receiver Mylan Graham says Miami is working hard to flip his commitment.
Graham has kept a good relationship with Miami receivers coach Kevin Beard. Beard was formerly on staff at the University of Toledo and was one of the first to make a connection with the prized wide out from Indiana.
Graham had this to say about Miami.
When I went down there, they made a good impression on me,” Graham said. “They were showing me around campus and everything. It was a better campus than I expected when I went. As far as recruiting me, they’re still trying to get at me, but they understand I’m committed to Ohio State.”

It sounds like OSU is still firmly in the driver’s seat, but when asked about Miami’s chances to stay in the picture, Graham kept the door open saying this of the Hurricane’s recruiting efforts: “Really just keep recruiting me hard and show me the culture’s changing. Show me that it’s actually changing. That’ll be it, really.”
Reason to worry? When you’re talking about 17-year-old kids, it’s anyone’s guess.
It still seems Graham is locked in with the Buckeyes, but in this new world of college recruiting, we’ll have to hold our collective breath until pen actually meets paper.
