Ohio State baseball drops second-straight to Iowa

After seemingly finding a little more consistency, the Buckeye baseball team has dropped two-straight to Iowa to put itself in a hole in the Big Ten. The game Saturday simply got away to the tune of 11-4. It’ll need to start stringing together some wins to finish in the top eight of the conference to make the Big Ten Tournament.

It was close for most of the game, but with the score tied 3-3 in the top of the 7th inning, the Iowa offense woke up. It scored four runs on five hits to go up 7-3, then put four more up in the top of the ninth.

Ohio State did have a bright spot in the bottom of the 8th inning when Dominic Canzone went deep to extend his hitting streak to sixteen games, and his reached base streak to 39 straight earlier in the game with an intentional walk.

Pitcher Bayden Root took the loss, giving up four runs on five hits to drop to 2-3 on the year. The Buckeyes now drop to 23-20 overall and 6-8 in the Big Ten. The two teams will play the series finale Sunday at 12:05 PM at Nick Swisher Field at Bill Davis Stadium.
