Ohio State baseball drops its first game of the season to BYU

All good things must come to an end.

The Ohio State baseball team had started out the season white hot last weekend, going 3-0 in the Snowbird Classic in Fort Meyers, then beating Florida Gulf Coast to start out unblemished in its first four games.

The Buckeyes are now in Corpus Christi, Texas for a four-game set and ran into some great pitching from BYU today, and fell to the Cougars by a score of 5-1.

The first two innings were innocent enough as neither team managed to scratch across a run, but then the floodgates opened in the bottom of the third. The Cougars got all their runs in the inning on four hits to chase starting pitcher Seth Lonsway from the mound.

Ohio State quickly found itself in a 5-0 hole.

On offense, the Buckeyes could only muster one run in the top of the sixth when Kobie Foppe drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.  Ohio State tried to rally in the eighth, but left the bases loaded.

The Buckeyes Inext take on Texas A&M Corpus Christi on Saturday at 7PM.
