Ohio State men’s hockey loses to Quinnipiac, knocked out of NCAA Tournament

The Ohio State men’s hockey team fell just short of its goal to make another Frozen Four.

Despite outshooting Quinnipiac by about a 2:1 margin, the Buckeyes couldn’t get the high-quality chances it needed to get more than one goal into the back of the net, falling to the Bobcats by a 4-1 score.

It was tight throughout, with Ohio State getting on the board first with 9:25 left in the first period on a charging rush by Joe Dunlap. Unfortunately, Quinnipiac would score two quick goals in succession and within 15 seconds of each other with under seven minutes left later in the first period to quickly wrestle the lead back, 2-1.

And that’s the way it would stay all the way until late in the 3rd period despite several chances by Ohio State to get the equalizer. The Bobcats got a crucial goal on a rebound batted out of the air with just 4:10 left on the clock to stretch it to a two-goal lead. Coach Steve Rohlik then decided to pull the goalie for the man advantage but OSU couldn’t get light the lamp again and instead gave up an empty netter for the final 4-1 score.

It wasn’t exactly what Ohio State wanted this season, but it was still a good postseason run and one for the Buckeyes to be proud of.
