'Off-road motorcycling does not constitute an essential journey' - police seize vehicles and equipment

Patrolling officers in Newark have been targeting off-road bikers and want communities to know, "it does not constitute an essential journey".

Police say they came across two young men on an off-road motorbike in Newark earlier this week.

As the men made their escape, the helmet and goggles (pictured right) were dropped and seized by officers.

The Newark team also seized a quad and motorcycle (pictured left) after they were seen being ridden across farmland and on a highway - both of which are illegal.

Nottinghamshire Police are now appealing for anyone who wishes to claim the items, or who may know who the items belong to, to come forward.

Neighbourhood Inspector Heather Sutton, said: "We do not tolerate off-road motorcycling as it causes such issues for the local community; destroying farmers crops, damaging land, riding and driving dangerously.

"Furthermore, it does not constitute an essential journey and it's so irresponsible that these people are going out and about and continuing to put others at risk.

"We have a very active operation in place targeting off-road bikers, and we have even more eyes on this issues while we actively increase patrols as a result of the Coronavirus."

If you are aware of anyone involved in such activity then please report it on 101 or contact CrimeStoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
