Ofcom's most complained-about moments of the year from Piers Morgan to Love Island

After a year of drama and shocking on-screen controversies and outbursts, Ofcom has revealed its most complained-about moments of a chaotic 12 months on television.

In their end of year review, the broadcasting regulator shared that 2021 has seen a record number of complaints, topping 150,000, which is up a staggering 124% from last year.

Piers Morgan's jaw-dropping comments on Meghan Markle on Good Morning Britain earlier this year topped the list with a whopping 54,000 complaints.

This Morning came in at number 10, receiving 1,942 complaints on their segment on losing 'lockdown pounds' and Good Morning Britain came next with 2,104 complaints about their debate called 'Ditching unvaccinated friends?'

The same programme got 2,632 complaints on Dr Hilary Jones criticising a fake Coronavirus information leaflet, while a different segment of the same show received 3,249 complaints about Piers asking Charlotte Hawkins to stand so viewers could see the skirt she was wearing.

Lorraine came sixth and received 3,769 complaints about Dr Hilary's comments on the number of unvaccinated people in hospitals.

5. Love Island - Casa Amour

Love Island's was filled with heartbreak and misunderstandings this year. When the Casa Amour episodes came round, things became tense.

Viewers were left outraged by the fallout from Casa Amor where a misleading photo, which was included in a postcard sent to the main villa from Casa Amor, suggested that Faye's partner Teddy had been unfaithful in the main villa.

Teddy was making out with one of the new girls during a challenge. However, he still remained sleeping outside and hanging out with Faye's teddy the entire time.

The postcard sent to the main villa was enough to push Faye to breaking point who swiftly dumped her man before being in tears when she later learned of his loyalty.

The postcard episode, which aired on 28 July, received a staggering 4,337 Ofcom complaints.

4. Oprah Winfrey interview with Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Prince Harry and Meghan’s interview with Oprah Winfrey had racked up a whopping amount of complaints to the watchdog website.

The couple's interview with the American talk show host left viewers fuming when it aired in March.

During the talk with Oprah, the duo opened up about the struggles they went through as senior members of the Royal Family.

One moment had Meghan revealing that a member of the Royal Family was concerned about what colour her son Archie's skin would be.

The shocking revelations were enough for people to complain. It resulted in 6,486 complaints.

3. What Happened To Your Face documentary

Channel 5 upset viewers after it aired a show that targeted reality star, Charlotte Crosby.

On April 22 the channel showed Celebrities: What's Happened To Your Face - Charlotte Crosby which dissected the former Geordie Shore star's appearance.

The programme was an hour-long and included plastic surgeons talking about the changes in her face since her career began.

Following the release of the episode, the channel decided to remove it from their streaming platform.

The MTV star even slammed the documentary for being "immoral and insensitive".

Ofcom received 7,125 complaints.

2. Love Island star Faye Winter's behaviour

Throughout the latest series of Love Island, Ofcom received many complaints about Faye's behaviour towards her now-boyfriend Teddy Soares.

Following a movie night challenge which saw Faye see a clip from earlier in the series of her couple partner Teddy admitting he was sexually attracted to Clarisse Juliette in Casa Amor, Faye was very upset by what she saw and heard.

The shocking moment came when Faye lost her temper and began yelling at Teddy.

Ofcom's report says that they received 24,921 complaints about the reality star's behaviour.

Faye has since apologised for her outburst.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! Piers Morgan's comments on the Duchess of Sussex received the most complaints this year.

Piers sensationally quit the ITV breakfast news show after it received complaints about the comments he made about Meghan and the interview.

He even said he didn't believe her claims about her mental health and how she had suicidal thoughts.

Meghan even made a complaint to the watchdog but Piers was later cleared by Ofcom, who said that he had not breached the broadcasting code.

He even paid thanks to Meghan after discovering he topped Ofcom's list.

Ofcom received a whopping 54,595 complaints.
