BHUBANESWAR: An elephant, which had trampled a woman to death at Raipal village under Rasagobindpur block in Mayurbhanj district on June 9, attacked the villagers when they were taking the body to the cremation ground the same evening. Sources said Maya Murmu, 68, of the village had gone to a nearby place near her house to fetch water on Thursday morning. On the way she saw an elephant herd coming towards her. When she tried to flee, one elephant chased and trampled her. She died on the way to hospital.

An elephant, which had trampled a woman to death at Raipal village under Rasagobindpur block in Mayurbhanj district on June 9, attacked the village again when she was being taken to the cremation ground the same evening.
Sources said Maya Murmu (68) of the village had gone to a nearby place near her house to fetch water on Thursday morning. On the way she saw an elephant herd coming towards her. When she tried to flee, one of the elephants chased and trampled her. After getting information, villagers reached the spot and rescued her but she died on the way to PRM Medical College and Hospital at Baripada. When her family members brought her body home, several people had gathered in the village.TNN
