The chances of Prime Minister Boris Johnson facing a vote of no confidence this month have risen to 38 per cent, according to a betting company.
The Betfair Barometer takes odds from the Betfair Exchange to generate a percentage chance and the figure shows a nine per cent increase this week following a series of resignations from the PM's team.
It means the odds of a vote of no confidence taking place in February are 11/8 at the time of writing.
The chances of Mr Johnson resigning have leapt to 30 per cent (12/5) overnight.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak remains the strong favourite to take the top job, at 13/8, with Liz Truss at 5/1 and Jeremy Hunt at 6/1.
Tom Tugendhat is at 7/1, Penny Mordaunt 10/1, Sajid Javid 14/1, Michael Gove 14/1, Nadhim Zahawi 20/1, Dominic Raab 25/1, Ben Wallace 25/1 and Priti Patel 33/1.
Betfair Exchange spokesperson Sam Rosbottom said: “A string of resignations from Boris Johnson’s team has prompted punters to back him to face a vote of no confidence and the Betfair Barometer gives him a 38 per cent chance (odds of 11/8) of facing the wrath of his peers before the end of February, a nine per cent increase from the start of the week.
“The chances of the PM resigning in February have doubled and the Betfair Barometer gives Johnson a 30 per cent (12/5) chance of joining the revolving door at Downing Street.
“Punters on Betfair Exchange are backing Rishi Sunak to swap No11 for No10 and he’s the clear 13/5 favourite to replace Johnson, ahead of Liz Truss who is next at 5/1 and Jeremy Hunt is 6/1.”
